The full moon rises through the Olympic Rings hanging beneath Tower Bridge during the London 2012 Olympic Games August 3, 2012.
Never one to shun the spotlight, the moon got in on the action at the London Olympics, forming a "sixth ring" in the logo hanging from Tower Bridge.
A stunning photo of the heavenly event, snapped by a Reuters photographer on Friday, became an instant hit on Twitter, astounding sports fans with the perfect alignment of the full moon and multi-colored rings framed by the iconic bridge that spans the River Thames.
"Love it! Even the moon is getting in on the London Olympics! " one fan quipped on Twitter. "Brilliant!" wrote another.
Of course, others couldn't resist the opportunity to take a jab at the International Olympic Committee, which has ruffled feathers by being extra vigilant regarding the use of its name and slogans.
"Now the moon gets sued by IOC for logo infringement," one joked.
In one case that raised eyebrows, a diner in London named Cafe Olympic had to change its name to Cafe Lympic after running afoul of copyright monitors.
But thus far any minor controversy has been overshadowed by the competition at the games, and for one night, the spectacular sight in the sky.
